Sadness. Emotional pain. Suicide. There are countless examples of literary works that has a speaker who is in emotional pain. Why? Because it makes the work more relatable, more alive, and more importantly human. Everyone has experienced pain at one point in their life whether it be from a breakup, the loss of a loved one, or simply moving into a new place and not knowing anyone. These works of literature bring out those memories and lets the reader or viewer relate to whatever they have created, taking comfort in the fact that the speaker feels pain as well even if they are fictional.
